Jim Shires, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office
I have been working for the public since I was 14. Restaurants, golf courses, etc. In 1985 I was hired by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. During the past 21 years I have worked in the jail, patrol and support services. While law enforcement is different from restaurant work, I feel there are also many similarities; these being, providing service to citizens, giving information if requested and just trying to help them in whatever manner is needed. Being a Public Information Officer has provided me the opportunity to not only broaden my life but also talk to the citizens, through the media, about whatever is happening at that particular time. Be it, a lost child, crime prevention or wildfire evacuation. My ultimate goal is to help the citizens understand how emergency services work.
